Darla Sycamore is a Chartered Accountant with an MBA from York University (Toronto) and a BSc(Econ) from the London School of Economics. She was most recently the Treasurer and Director Finance of the Ontario Pension Board (OPB) and ran the Finance function of the Plan. The OPB is a major Ontario Government Pension Plan. Darla is a member of the Financial Executives Institute, the senior organization for financial executives in North America. She sits on their Toronto Chapter Board as well as the Board of their Canadian Research Foundation. Her background includes accounting  policy research at the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the National Department of a  big four accounting firm. She has also taught full time at the unversity level. Darla's other experience  includes financial positions with a major Canadian bank.She sits on the Advisory Board of Decyde Inc.

Statement from Darla Sycamore (“The IFRS Exorcist”)

It sounds like I do not like the IASB or IFRSs that is I want to exorcise (or expunge) the whole thing. Do not confuse me with “The IFRS Resistance” a term that has recently been coined in the USA.

I fully support the move to IFRS convergence around the world. It will improve the functioning of capital markets around the world.

However, there are numerous implementation issues as international standards are adopted in various countries. The issues are not confined to “accounting”; they also extend to non-accounting areas such as IT Systems, Contractual Agreements, and Executive Compensation Arrangements among other things.

Many people believe that the “Devil is in the Details”. I have called myself the “The IFRS Exorcist” somewhat tongue in cheek. My mission is to seek out the devils, identify them, and exorcise them.
